Message from Management: Bonnie So

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

At WiFA, we focus on empowering women to achieve their full professional potential through five committees:

  1. Education – equip our members with “Theory, Practice and Strategy”. Practice is what we do every day, where we are today. Strategy is where we want to be. Theory is the tool, mindset, and skillset that helps us get there.
  2. Networking – facilitate a diverse background with a common goal to support each other. Leaders are invited to share their personal philosophies and insights. We connect and do business together.
  3. Mentors and Mentees Program – connect senior leaders and facilitate one on one relationship to offer the depth of learning and experience while ensuring that our members have a safe and confidential space to explore our personal ambitions.
  4. Emerging Talents – we encourage young talents to learn and leverage the management experiences from leaders, while promoting innovation and creative ideas.
  5. Philanthropy – giving back is one of our core values to make an impact on our community with our skillsets while being generous with our time.

Together we ensure a necessary platform for the pipeline of female future leaders to shine. A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. Why not join WiFA and support the work?

Spotlight Series Gains Momentum: Celebrating Women and their Talents
Spotlight Series Gains Momentum: Celebrating Women and their Talents
This month, we celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th to honour the achievements of women worldwide, while also recognizing the obstacles that women still face in everyday home and professional life.

To do our part in celebrating the accomplishments of the great women in our network, WiFA has been sharing our 2021 Spotlight Series every day of this month. Each day we have told the story of a different woman’s talents and contributions in the financial services industry, with the aim of shining a spotlight on the diverse and incredibly interesting paths that these individuals in the industry have taken.

Read the published interviews here, and keep an eye out for these inspiring interviews on our website and on our LinkedIn. We hope these interviews have been a launch point for a deeper and more nuanced discussion on diversity and gender equality within our industry.

To Vaccinate or Not: The Role of Employers on Employee Well-Being : March 25
To Vaccinate or Not: The Role of Employers on Employee Well-Being : March 25
The COVID-19 pandemic is a tragic reminder of how unprepared the world is in detecting and responding to emerging infectious diseases. It is now clear that vaccinations will play an important role in controlling this global health crisis. As vaccines’ role in saving the world’s population expands, we need to understand issues such as safety and efficacy, vaccine hesitancy, social (mis) trust, herd immunity, and preparing ourselves both mentally and physically.

In particular, we must consider the role of corporations in understanding these issues. Employees are the most important stakeholders of a company. Employers' impact on helping employees navigate through the vaccination process will be crucial in the upcoming months.

To discuss vaccine concerns and challenges prevalent in society and in the workplace today, WiFA welcomes Dr. Myra, Medical Director, AIA Group and Dr. Donald Greig, Managing Partner HKSS. Please join us to hear their perspectives and insights on this timely topic.

When: Thursday, March 25@12-1pm

WiFA co-Chair Speaks Out on Women Empowering Change
WiFA’s co-Chair Benedicte Nolens cited the importance of support networks like WiFA in the IFLR (International Financial Law Review) article published on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The article discusses what must be done to get more women into leadership roles and how rules, regulations, and support programs can help them get there. Nolens also touched upon matters such as the importance of female role models and board diversity. Further, she emphasised that women go through more physical changes in the course of their careers than men, including before and after pregnancy(ies) and pre and post menopause, making a support system like WiFA all the more important.
