WiFA Overview: Bonnie Ohri

During 2020, the world in general, and the financial industry in particular spent much of its time and resources scrambling to adapt to challenging circumstances. Although there are vaccines within reach, the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet won, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This is the year of transition. Individuals, businesses, and society must move forward together to shape the future rather than simply adjusting to the present. As part of that process, WiFA would like to highlightthe 2021 upcoming events, keeping in mind the WiFA themes for this year are: #PivotToSucceed and #ShapeOurFutureTogether with a continued focus on #resilience and #innovation.

As we move forward to facilitate and collaborate, we ask you to join our journey towards a successful 2021. We start the month of February with a Chinese New Year photo celebration --WiFA is pleased to share the joys of the festive season via our social media platform with our members. Share your Women’s Network Team Stories with us by February 8th to kick off the lunar new year. Our Mentee-Mentor Program has received over 100 applications and the launch for the new cohort is on February 19th. And our Spotlight Series for International Women’s Day is underway, led by our communications intern, Kayla Chhin, who will be assembling stories from female leaders across the financial industry.

And these events are just the beginning of shaping our future together. We also encourage you to share with us your initiatives, so that WiFA can continue to support you. Whether you are looking for a speaker, co-hosting an event or simply require a platform to share celebrations, articles, or job postings, we are here to help.
Warm Wishes for Health and Happiness in the New Year!

Congratulations to New Mentors and Mentees: Don't Miss the MMP Launch Event
Congratulations to New Mentors and Mentees: Don't Miss the MMP Launch Event
WiFA would like to like to thank all its members for their participation in 2021 MMP (Mentor-Mentee Programme). We had an overwhelming response and record number of mentor-mentee pairings. You should have all received the email confirming your pairing matches, please let us know if you have not heard from us on your application. Mentors and mentees are matched based on their experiences, common interests and ambitions.
As you embark on this new relationship with your mentor and mentee, please be open and honest with each other and respectful of your mentor’s time. Take time to listen and the more you share, the more you can benefit. We are also hosting a virtual MMP launch event on Friday February 19th at noon, where we will share basic rules of engagement and you will have a chance to hear from individuals who have benefitted from this program in the past. Please keep any questions you have about how to progress and make the most of your mentor-mentee relationship handy and we hope to be able to answer them at this event. Ideally you should have made contact and scheduled your first discussion before you join the launch event.

Once again, we wish you good luck and hope to see you at our launch event. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

WiFA Spotlight Series #IWD (International Women's Day)
WiFA Spotlight Series #IWD (International Women's Day)
International Women’s Day, marked each year on March 8th, was established by the United Nations in 1975 as a moment to celebrate the achievement of women worldwide, while also highlighting the obstacles that women still face in everyday home and professional life. WiFA and it’s members have been tackling these challenges head on with immense dedication and success.
This year, we are excited to be bringing back the popular WiFA Spotlight Series! Everyday throughout the month of March, we will be sharing the story of a different woman’s talents and contributions in the financial services industry. The aim of this series is to help shine a spotlight on the diverse and incredibly interesting paths that women in the industry have taken, and our collective responsibility to creating a promising future for others.
Conducting the interviews this year is our communications intern, Kayla Chhin, a third year student pursuing her Business Administration and International Studies degree at York University in Toronto, Canada. She has previously conducted interviews on behalf of PEN Canada with industry experts within the journalism community and is eager to learn from the Spotlight Series stories.
Keep an eye out for these inspiring interviews which will be a launch point for a deeper and more nuanced discussion on diversity and gender equality within our industry. Contact Kayla.Chhin@wifasia.org for more information.
The WiFA Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Forum
The WiFA Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Forum
Since the inception of the WiFA D&I Forum (formerly known as the Women's Forum), the emphasis has been on focusing the spotlight on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion topics close to our organization and sponsors’ hearts, and the members who joined the network looking to connect with like-minded professionals within their industry to create a supportive and caring community.

In 2020, we worked closely with our Corporate Members to focus on the Quest for Resilience, and received positive feedback from the sponsors and attendees.

With a new year, come new ideas and initiatives. In 2021, we would like to encourage you to submit D&I questions and suggestions of topics you would like us to consider for the 2021 Diversity & Inclusion Forum, which will be held on April 28 .

Volunteering for a Good Cause: Financial Manangement Workshops with HERFund
Volunteering for a Good Cause: Financial Manangement Workshops with HERFund
Alongside HERFund, the Philanthropy Committee organized two sessions of financial management workshops in Cantonese on Jan 23 and 30. The seminars were targeted at six local non-profit organizations, all of which prioritized gender/women empowerment. WiFA was fortunate to have the help of 10+ volunteers from multiple institutions to support the effort, from devising educational materials to presentation to mentoring. Topics covered during the two virtual Zoom sessions included basics of financial statements, cash flow management and budgeting, as well as marketing and fundraising for NGOs. As a follow-up, WiFA volunteers have been conducting mentoring sessions with their respective non-profit mentees to discuss any specific financial management and marketing concerns unique to their organizations.

WiFA would like to sincerely thank our dedicated volunteers from BlackRock, State Street, HKEx, Alt Key Theory, Cyberport and many others who contributed endless hours in content, creation, and virtual engagement with HERFund and other local non-profit leaders.
