Psychological impacts caused by global warming are often ignored by society. On top of everything else, the impact on your mental health from climate change can be very real and impactful.


This virtual session, sponsored by WiFA's Education Committee, invites experts from different backgrounds who will bring varied perspectives on mental health issues relating to current climate events. The discussion will also focus on social phenomena such as what is happening in Southeast Asia and the Arctic, which are being affected by environmental changes, as well as some explorations on how to think and practice positively and transform PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) into PTG (Post-Traumatic Growth).

    Amy is the Chief Operating Officer at FountainVest Partners (Asia) Limited. FountainVest Partners was founded in 2007 and is a leading China-focused private equity fund headquartered in Hong Kong. Prior to joining FountainVest in late 2019, Amy worked for 4 years as the CEO of Save the Children Hong Kong, the HK member of a global movement that works in 120 countries focusing on the most marginalized and deprived children.
    Before Save the Children, Amy spent nearly two decades in financial services with institutions including JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, and Merrill Lynch, working in the US and Asia, having worked as an investment banker, head of strategy, COO and Head of Regulatory Change Management. Amy serves on the Board of Rädda Barnen Service AB, a Swedish social enterprise focusing on Child Rights in business. She is a graduate of Georgetown University and has an MBA from Columbia University and she was also a Certified Public Accountant qualified in the District of Columbia, USA. Amy is a Hong Kong native and has a 19-year old daughter and a 14-year old son. Since 2015, Amy has been an dedicated practitioner of meditation which she credits for her clarity in her life’s purpose.

    Ilissa Howard is a US trained psychotherapist and has lived in Hong Kong for 12 years. She takes a humanistic approach, which looks at people from a holistic perspective and believes in self-actualization and the capacity for human beings to grow and change. Ilissa focuses on researched and evidence-based approaches and has studied a wide variety of interventions. She draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), utilizing motivational interviewing techniques where appropriate, and also incorporating elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy. Her approach is modern and solution focused.
    Prior to retraining as a psychotherapist, Ilissa worked in Marketing at corporates for over 20 years.

With over 15 years’ experience in climate change and development in government and non-government organizations, Paul has developed, implemented, monitored and evaluated adaptation projects and strategies at local, national and regional scales across the Pacific, South and Southeast Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.

    Bonnie Ohri has had an extensive career in public service focused on designing, implementing, and managing programs for marginalized communities. She is a former Deputy Director at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she provided oversight to over 1,400 primary care facilities, with the mission of providing healthcare to vulnerable populations. Prior to this role, she worked at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce overseeing U.S. banking industry trends; and then later, with a focus on compliance and regulatory oversight at the Office of Management and Budget and Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Her tenure as a senior policy advisor for the U.S. Agency for International Development, focused on emerging health issues in Europe and Eurasia.
    After moving to Hong Kong, Bonnie pivoted her career towards the non-profit sector. As an advisor to Mind HK, she worked on mental health issues and then joined OneSky as a Project Director, where she focuses on early childhood education trainings in underprivileged communities in Mongolia. Bonnie is also the Executive Director and Board member of Women in Finance Asia.

Catherine also worked in prominent financial institutions in Canada and China including the Royal Bank of Canada and Noah Holdings Limited. She advised ultra-high net worth clients and family offices on investment in public, and private equity and other asset classes.

    Catherine holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, an MSc in Economics and a BSc in Economics and Statistics from University College London and the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation.

    Catherine received the Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award from the University of Toronto in 2017 for her long–term commitment and contribution to the local community.
